Once your application for certification has been reviewed and it is determined that you meet the criteria, you will be scheduled to take the online certification examination. This exam consistes of fifty mulitple-choice questions, ten short-answer questions and two essay questions.
The multiple-choice questions cover a variety of general topics in marketing which should be familiar to anyone with a significant background in the feild. The short-answer questions are designed to test the candidate's knowledge of current marketing terminology and their understaning of marketign ethics. The essay questions provide the candidate the opportunity to expound upon their feild of expertise and apply their knowledge and skills to a practical marketing situation. Candidates will have two hours to complete the exam.
Scoring
Each mulitple-choice question is worth one point. Each short-answer question is worth three points and each essay question is worth ten points. Candidates must acheive a score of 90 or greater to pass. The exams are scored by a current Certified Marketing Practitioner, based on a scoring key provided by the AIPM. If the exam is scored between 85 and 89 points by the first scorer, it is sent to a second scorer for verifiaction. In this case, if the average of the two scores is 90 or greater, the candidate is passed.
Notification
Exams are typically scored and the results are emailed to the candidate within five business days. Candidates who pass the exam will receive their certificate within five business days of notification. Candiates who do not pass the exam will be eleigable to take it again in 30 days. Candidates will be informed of their composite score, but will not have the opportunity to review their scored exam or receive a breakdown of their score by section.
